Card of the Moment

 Creativity and passion heightens…

As with all the aces in the Tarot, the Ace of Wands heralds an exciting new beginning. And being the suit of wands, it represents an initial upsurge of raw, passionate, creative energy and expression.

Whether the new idea is the start of a new job or career, the development of a new business or creative project, or the conception and birth of a child, this card is a clear sign that you should just ‘go for it’. It’s a powerful card in that the energy that it carries is one of great inspiration and enthusiasm, signaling a strong desire to take action on pursuing the new venture, which in doing so would most likely turn out to be a great success.

The energy of the Ace of Wands is similar to that of The Fool in The Major Arcana, in that they both offer exciting opportunities for new beginnings, where one should act upon their ‘gut’ instinct and take a chance on a new idea, with faith and not necessarily having any plans on how to act, but simply knowing that they must act somehow because of a strong feeling that it’s the right thing to do. However, with The Fool, being a Major Arcana card the new beginning is inevitable and is indicative of the start of a new cycle in one’s life, where the Ace of Wands, being a Minor Arcana card and just like all the aces, is simply an opportunity offered that one must act upon to make the most of. In this case, with this Ace being the suit of wands, that great ambition and drive is also accompanied with restless, volatile energy.

The driving force behind this volatile energy is of course, Zeus, whom we see pictured here from the Mythic Tarot Deck, symbolising Aries, masculinity, and fire. Zeus, being the King of the Gods is the initiator of this raw, passionate creativity power that seems to come to us from nowhere but causes us to have that desire that’s so intense that we simply must act on it.

Therefore, overall, the appearance of the Ace of Wands in a Tarot spread is a very good sign, particularly if it falls in the outcome position. However we must remember that at this early stage, the positive, powerful energy this card carries is simply the upsurge of that energy. The new idea is still yet to be created. The restlessness and volatility that accompanies that energy is what one must harness and ground in order for the new idea to be formulated, and thus created into a success.
